Deadlines and Disaster Relief

Published on September 26, 2012

Monday, September 17, 2012 was the deadline for filing 2011 business returns (Forms 1120, 1120S, and 1065) on extension. It was also the due date for the third installment of estimated taxes for 2012. However, automatic extensions have been granted for certain victims of recent disasters.

Most notably were the recent extensions given to victims of Tropical Storm Debby in Florida in June and victims of the Freedom Wildfires in Oklahoma at the beginning of August. These weren’t the only victims offered some assistance. Relief has been granted for taxpayers in various locations across the United States. Relief efforts from the Internal Revenue Service include postponement of filing and payment deadlines.

To see if your area is one that received a tax extension due to the natural disaster that struck, visit this website for the complete list and copies of the accompanied press releases.
